GESS is Asia’s leading German school abroad, offering an exceptional education to students aged 2 to 18 years.
The German European School Singapore (GESS), founded in 1971 by German parents, is a not-for-profit school that reinvests all its financial resources into teaching and learning. With 1850 students from 70 mostly European nationalities, GESS is the largest German school abroad in Asia and represents a significant cultural hub for the German-speaking and European community in Singapore. Our extensive curriculum offers all German school qualifications alongside the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme taught in English, equipping students for success in a global world. GESS's excellence in education is reflected in our consistently outstanding Abitur results. This is further recognized through successful accreditations from educational organizations such as the 'Excellent German School Abroad' award and the prestigious Robert Bosch Foundation's German School Award.
As a German school abroad, GESS plays a vital role in promoting and preserving the German language. This commitment forms the core of our educational mission and aligns with the goals of the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) to maintain our German cultural identity. German is the primary language of instruction and the second official language within the English IB programme. Furthermore, we prioritize linguistic diversity and cultural enrichment, with a special emphasis on European mother tongues. Our school is renowned for its language programmes, offering over 15 languages expertly taught both integrated and after school.
GESS is more than just a learning institution; it symbolizes an open-minded Germany. In 2021, GESS partnered with 15 leading global companies and organisations to launch the exclusive BeyondClassrooms program. This initiative provides GESS students with unique real-world insights into the professional world through internships, industry expert talks and hands-on STEM programmes, empowering them with the freedom to grow and discover their passions.
Our vibrant and committed school community is at the heart of what makes GESS special. The parent-led board of governors and school association actively shape the strategic direction of the school and vote on key initiatives. We enjoy fruitful collaborations with the German Embassy in Singapore and the ZfA, benefiting from their advisory support which greatly contributes to our achievements.
