GESS Libraries

Our GESS libraries, which boast a collection of 25,000 media items, provide a welcoming common space that encourages exploration, creation and collaboration between students, teachers and the broader GESS community. They bring together the best of the physical and digital to create vibrant learning hubs.

Preschool Library

The Preschool Library creates a safe, enjoyable and inviting environment for your children and provides the resources to support their natural curiosity and enhance learning experiences.

Children often visit the Preschool Library with their classes and are welcome to borrow from the diverse collection of resources. In the Preschool Library the foundations to develop information literate global children are laid through the simplified teaching of library research skills.

Primary Library

The Primary Library is a vibrant, exciting and welcoming environment for students, staff and parents. Our library resources support both the German as well as IB Curriculum.

The role of traditional paper books is balanced with new and emerging technologies that include e-books and online information. By incorporating the use of iPads in the library we provide an environment that is essential for teaching and learning digital information skills in the 21st Century.

Secondary Library

The Secondary Library is a multi-resourced school library of the 21st Century, with a mission to enhance teaching and learning through the provision of a rich variety of resources and to develop a community of information literate citizens who see learning as a life-long opportunity.

With a well-qualified team, the library is able to support the teaching programmes, especially in the research process for inquiry-based activities and in promoting a love of reading. Through its dynamic and interactive library catalogue, the library also provides a virtual space which allows students access to materials which facilitate learning including digital content and e-books.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY AT GESS

Learning at GESS is enriched and fostered through the 21st Century Learning concepts and skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity and digital literacy.

We believe that the integration of educational technology creates a path for tomorrow's innovative and global thinkers and the skills, knowledge and expertise all members of the school community must master to succeed in the 21st century learning. To this end, we are building a purposeful and sustainable landscape for educational technology. Teaching, learning and professional growth are all guided and developed by the ISTE Standards for Students, Teachers, Administrators and Educational Technology Coaches.

Digital Citizenship Education

The digital citizenship program which is based on Common Sense Media teaches our students to practice safety, good judgement and to protect the rights of themselves and others at all times. At GESS, we are committed to developing them as independent and responsible digital citizens.

Key EdTech Resources

  • GESS introduces iPads to students from Kindergarten to Grade 4 and 5 and offers additional access to laptops for the older grades
  • From Grade 6 onwards, the students progress to using laptops on a 1:1 basis as part of our "bring your own device" (BYOD) program
  • Various modern learning resources ranging from VR goggles, augmented reality programmes, robotics, film production and subscriptions
  • Guidance from highly experienced Educational Technology Coaches
