At German European School Singapore (GESS), a great school is never built by teachers and students alone. It is built together, with parents at the centre. From the moment your family joins GESS, you are joining a community that walks alongside you, celebrates with you, and genuinely cares about your journey
GESS was founded by parents, and that spirit has never left us. As a not-for-profit international school, we are proudly community-governed. Eight of the ten members of our Board of Governors are elected by our parent Association at the Annual General Meeting and serve voluntarily, without remuneration. GESS is one of the few international schools in Singapore where parents vote on the school budget, including tuition fees. It is a genuine, open partnership where every voice matters and every decision is made with your child at heart.

Community governance only works if families take part in it, and that starts with becoming a member of the GESS Association. As a member, you have a genuine voice in the future of the school, including the right to vote at our Annual General Meeting, from electing our Board of Governors to shaping other key decisions that guide the school forward. It is one of the clearest ways to put the values of openness and shared responsibility into practice.
Our Parent Workshops connect families with GESS educators on the topics that matter most when joining a new school: understanding the curriculum and admissions journey, supporting your child's wellbeing and learning at home, and building community as an expat family. Whether you have an hour a month or simply want to learn, there is a place for you at GESS.

Being a GESS parent means having a say in your child's school and standing shoulder to shoulder with other families navigating the adventure of raising children in a new country, together in a spirit of respect, openness and diversity.
That is why your voice, your involvement, and your trust matter so much here. They are what make GESS not just a school, but a true community.
