07:30 AM — Arrival at Preschool
Students can be dropped off from 07:30 and will be supervised by teachers in the playground.

08:00 AM — Homeroom
Children come together to connect and prepare for the day ahead. They set intentions, revisit class agreements, sing together and check in with their own and others’ wellbeing.

08:30 AM — Snack
Children enjoy healthy snacks from home in the company of their teachers and peers.

09:00 AM — Inquiry through Guided Play
Children explore big ideas about themselves and the world around them through interdisciplinary Units of Inquiry. Learning naturally connects across areas through STEM, helping children make meaningful connections rather than subjects in isolation.

10:15 AM — Language (German, English, or Mandarin)
Children engage in daily language learning through playful, interactive experiences. Songs, stories, games and conversation help build confidence, vocabulary and a love of languages.

10:45 AM — Outdoor Learning (Playground)
Outdoor play gives children space to move, explore, take appropriate risks and connect with friends, building physical confidence, independence and important social skills through play.

11:45 AM — PreLit
Through stories, rhymes and playful sound activities, children build oral language, vocabulary, phonological awareness and comprehension, the essential foundations for later reading and writing.

12:30 AM — Lunch
Hot lunch is provided. It is a social part of our day, where children eat together with their peers and teachers. Alongside enjoying a balanced meal, they develop independence, practise table manners and connect with friends.

1:15 PM — Specialist Learning
Specialist teachers enrich the Preschool experience across areas including Music, Swimming, Visual and Digital Art, PE and Forest School. These experiences give children new ways to explore and discover their interests.

2:00 PM — Mindfulness
A moment to slow down during a busy day. Children learn to connect with their bodies, notice how they are feeling and develop simple strategies for finding calm and regulating themselves.

2:40 PM — Community Connection
Children come back together to reflect on their day, pack their belongings and gather in the pick-up area

3:00 PM — End of Day
At the end of the Preschool day, teachers ensure each child transitions safely to their next destination, whether boarding the school bus, joining a CCA, or being collected by their family.
GESS Preschool is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and guided by the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). Our curriculum is intentionally designed to balance inquiry, play, and structured learning experiences, ensuring children develop strong foundations for future academic success.
Through hands-on and experiential learning, children explore meaningful concepts and make real-world connections. Alongside this, we place a strong emphasis on developing essential skills such as literacy, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills, supporting
both academic and social development.
Your child will enjoy and benefit from a range of specialist lessons and activities including:
Language Support
There are language support sessions available for children in the German or English streams who need to further develop their German or English skills. Children may be supported within the classroom, or out of the classroom with a small group of peers to engage in additional activities to build their language proficiency skills.
Our Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students enjoy a full range of after-school activities (CCA), expertly designed to develop children's interests. Your child can choose from many activities including:
GESS is a non-selective international school, and we welcome students with diverse talents and abilities.
Due to rapid development in the preschool years, grade placements ensure children are grouped with peers at a similar stage of social development.
Our preschool programmes are designed for a full-day schedule (08:00-14:50), however, in Pre-Kindergarten, families may choose to follow a shorter programme of 3 half-days (08:00-12:30) and 2 full-days (08:00-14:45).
