Overview
Definition of Educational and Career Guidance
- "developmental process where at each stage of education, pupils are helped in the development of attitudes, skills and knowledge which will provide them with the capability to explore, understand, and make informed decisions with regard to their own potential and prospective career." (Anthony Watts, 1988, UK); and,
- "developmental and systematic programme of coordinated information and experiences designed to facilitate individual education and career planning through assisting individuals to understand and act on knowledge of self, opportunities in work, education and leisure and to apply decision-making skills by which to create and manage their own career development." (Herr, Cramer and Niles, 2004, USA)
Domains of ECG
- Self Awareness (SA): the awareness of personal characteristics (abilities, aptitudes, skills, values, and interests) and evaluation of these characteristics in terms of employability.
- Opportunity Awareness (OA): the awareness of educational and career opportunities.
- Decision Learning (DL): the development and application of decision-making skills to make informed decisions on education and career choices.
- Transition Learning (TL): the development and application of work values and personal qualities, employability skills and knowledge, to transit successfully through the different levels of education and career.

OUR GOAL FOR ECG@GESS
- To enable students to explore, understand and apply decision-making skills to make informed choices about their education and prospective careers, and manage their future career development.
OBJECTIVES OF ECG@GESS:
- Create opportunities for students to be aware of their personal characteristics and understand their relevance to employability. (ST2)
- Provide information to students on educational and career opportunities. (ST1, ST2)
- Develop students with decision-making skills to make informed decisions on education and career choices. (ST1, ST2)
- Equip students with work values and personal qualities, employability skills and knowledge, so that they can transit successfully through the different levels of education and career. (ST1, ST2)
