51st Annual General Meeting of GESS Old Students' Association (GESSOSA)

Fellow Gessians,

The 51st Annual General Meeting of GESS Old Students' Association (GESSOSA) will be held on Sat 30 May 2009 from 2pm - 5pm in the school AVA Room.

The meeting agenda and minutes of the 50th AGM is attached.

We have two important items in this year's agenda namely (1)Set up GESS 125th Anniversary Committe and (2)Implement plan to attain autonomous school by 2015. We will be needing lots of ideas, support and resources to realise these objectives and therefore, I seek your strong support to rally your respective cohorts to come forward to serve your alma mater. Attending the AGM is the first step to get us all on the same page.

More than 120 years ago, our Founder established a free school for boys who were poor. Generations of Gessians have benefited from his philantrophy and it is time for us to return to serve our alma mater.

"That as many hands build a house, So many hearts make a school". Onward Gessians !

GESSOSA 50th Anniversary Dinner 22nd August 2008

On 22nd August 2008, Gan Eng Seng School's Old Students' Association [GESSOSA], held the above function in GESS school hall. The dinner was to commemorate its 50th anniversary and to have a get together of Senior Gessians as well as to sign up new members for the association. School staff also helped to provide support. Mr Abraham Joseph, one of the school's Senior Teachers, coordinated this event between GESSOSA and the school where the school's cultural groups performed during the event. The principal, Mr Victor Giam, also took the opportunity to update GESSOSA of the school's recent achievements and its aspiration to obtain autonomous status.

The event was well attended with over twenty tables. Among the special guests was Professor Kiang Ai Kim who started the association in 1958. Hence Professor Kiang’s presence was all the more significant. In many ways the dinner was also a tribute to his contributions.

This event has greatly strengthened our school's partnership with GESSOSA.

Vote for Michael!

Perpetuating the philanthropic spirit of Mr. Gan Eng Seng, Michael Lum (Class of '72) offered free courses for victims of the economic crisis. He chooses to help not by giving them fishes, but by sharing with them the skills to fish.

He was noted for his public spiritedness - he conducted free pre-employment workshops for retrenched workers at his own expense to help them find jobs...

Michael is also the author for 'I Once Wore Diapers' and 'Who Broke My Rice Bowl' and have been returning to GESS to give speeches to current students and run workshops for the alumni.

And for his conscientious efforts, he has been nominated as one of the 10 'ABC True Heroes'.

If you wish to vote for him to be the 'hero of heroes', you could do so by sms:

SMS ABC<space><Hero's code><space><your NRIC No>
and send to 77177.

eg. ABC 3 1234567A (Michael's code is 3)

Each SMS is charged at 20 cents; voting ends 29 Nov 2003; you could stand to win $500.

In the spirit of GES,

A Joyous Reunion!

Seeing all GESSians (past and present), friends and guests having a good time and a joyous reunion is all worthwhile for the working committee, who has toiled in the past couple of months for this event.

OSA extends our thanks for all the support given by generous donors and everyone who has taken time off to attend our function.

A report of the event will be online soon.

Let's have a look at the first set of photos of the night...

About the Website

This is the official website to obtain news regarding the Gan Eng Seng School Old Students' Association or GESSOSA. It is managed by the members of the OSA Executive committee.

In this website, we will also include articles or issues that may interest current students, the parents, old students like ourselves and maybe members of the public who are interested in the School or the Alumni.

In addition, we are also keen to position this website as an archival of GESS history and the repository of accounts from alumnus about their life in the school back in their days.

In that, visitors can not only come to our site for information and news about the OSA and school alike but to reminisce and relive certain chapters in their life or for reference etc.

We hope that through this cyberGESSIAN community, we continue to reinforce the bonding between GESSIANs of all ages. ONWARD !
