Eldest is the sequel to the book Eragon.
At the end of book Eragon, Eragon promises to meet the Mourning Sage in Ellesmera, the city of the elves to continue his training to be a Rider.
Eragon has pledged his fealty to the Varden, a group of people who opposes the evil king named Galbatorix. Thus he sets out with Arya the elf and Orik the dwarf and Saphira the dragon. In the midst of all this, Eragon's cousin is trying to save his village from the Galbatorix.
Galbatorix is gathering a huge army to stage a brutal war against the Varden.
Eragon and Saphira are recalled to the Varden to help them fight the war.
But is Eragon strong enough to oppose the huge army with a meagre one?
And is he strong enough to know the dark secret about his birth?
