Rite of Passage

Every graduating student will receive a copy of the following poem written by Seow Chern Loong of Secondary 4F (1996) dedicated to the Class of 1996.

For one transcendent moment, on a hectic sea,
Of life and love and learning, passed in brevity,
Lies the honoured standing of our very make,
Lies the honoured standing of our very faith

A school 'twas the Dragon, that mark upon our hearts,
Honour and strength in our faith, virtue on our part,
A school 'twas the mighty Ship that sailed the seas of time,
With truth and tradition steered through our minds sublime.

Red, the flame of purpose that burns in every heart,
Green, the hope of success if we play our part,
White, the colour of purity, of our morality,
Remember well the colours as we sail upon the sea.

Be grateful for the harbour as we now depart
On life's challenging journey we now embark,
Be grateful and remember all of our lives
What we know, what we feel - the Gessian Spirit never dies.
