- Sec Schools Exercise 2010 for Admission to Sec 1 in 2011

Gan Eng Seng School : Niche – Uniformed Groups

Gan Eng Seng School (GESS) welcomes Primary 6 students to participate in the Direct School Admission (DSA) Exercise. Applicants must satisfy the selection criteria stated in Part II (a), (b) and (c) and have demonstrated intellectual aptitude, good communication skills, leadership potential and outstanding self qualities such as resilience, integrity and compassion. Applicants must also wish to contribute to the Gessian family.

Under this exercise, successful applicants will gain admission into GESS for the academic year beginning January 2011 and must join one of the school’s uniformed groups during his/her years in Gan Eng Seng School.

  1. Part 1: Application Procedure

    1. Application form can be downloaded here from 12 May 10 to 02 Jul 10 .
    2. All application forms must be duly completed and submitted by hand only to Gan Eng Seng School General Office (Mon – Fri, 0800hrs – 1700hrs) together with the following supporting documents:
      1. Copies of academic results of primary 5 and primary 6 for verification of conduct.
      2. Copies of NAPFA certificates of primary 5 and primary 6.
      3. Portfolio of achievements/awards and evidence of special talent (if any)
      4. Sealed Confidential Teacher's Reference (Section E, if any).
        (Do not send the reference form separately. Your teacher should return the form in a sealed envelope, provided by you, for your submission together with your application.)
    3. Application via post, fax and/or electronic mail will NOT be accepted.
    4. The closing date of submission is on 02 Jul 2010 at 5.00pm. Applications received after this date and time will NOT be accepted.
    5. Incomplete applications and those without supporting documents will also not be considered.
    6. Short-listed applicants are required to attend an interview by the Selection Panel from 26 Jul 10 to 29 Jul 10 (tentative).

  2. Part 2: Selection Criteria

    Applicant must fulfil criteria (a) to (c):

    1. Obtained a Conduct of 'Good' or better in Pri 5 and Pri 6.
    2. Obtained at least a Bronze Award in Pri 5 or Pri 6 NAPFA Test.
    3. A leader or a committee member in a CCA in Pri 5 or Pri 6 or a school prefect or sports leader or class monitor in Pri 5 or Pri 6
    4. Participated/contributed in external competitions/events (if any).

  3. Part 3: Results of DSA Offer/Allocation

    All applicants will be informed on the outcome of their application by 03 Sept 10 via post. Successful applicants' primary schools will follow-up with the rest of the DSA exercise. Results of posting will be released on the day of the release of the PSLE results. GESS reserves the right not to release the results of the interview or the reason for non-selection of an applicant.

Who are the potential DSA candidates to be admitted to Gan Eng Seng School?

We are looking for primary 6 student-leaders who are able and willing to contribute to the Gessian family in any of our Uniformed Groups. Successful DSA applicants admitted to Gan Eng Seng School are expected to take Uniformed Group as their CCA. The school provides leadership development as a key focus in the Uniformed Group niche programme.

What are the different types of Uniformed groups in GESS?

After I have submitted the application form, when will I know if I have been shortlisted for the interview?
