Our Team:

Our GESS Canoe Sprint Team was established in 1997 to provide students with an opportunity to experience water sports both at a leisure and competitive level. Since its establishment, our team has competed in many competitions and in particular, the annual National Inter-school Canoeing Championship. Apart from competition, our team has also embarked on other canoe-related activities.

Our Activities:

On top of the weekly water trainings to build up on water confidence and individual skill level in preparation for competitions, all our members will also need to go through the One Star Personal Skill course certified by the Singapore Canoe Federation, to equip themselves with the necessary basic knowledge and ability to handle the sport. A training camp is also conducted in semester one to foster leadership qualities, team bonding and to inject fun into our training.

During the post competition period, the team will embark on more relaxing activities as well as overseas expedition. Games like netball, tennis and basketball are incorporated into the training.In November 2009, the GESS Canoe Sprint Team went on a kayaking expedition in Krabi, Thailand where students and teachers received an invaluable and enriching experience in island hopping.

Besides competitions, we have also gained much knowledge and experience through involvement in overseas expedition, canoe camps, canoe polo, dragonboating, etc.
